Metabolist Change
A circulation study developed from the stairs of Zaha Hadid’s Dominion Office Building.
Precedent reconstruction followed by variations in flights, landings and stair assemblies.
The source booklet studies crossing stairs within the Dominion Office Building’s atrium through plans, sections and perspectives. The reconstruction provides a geometric basis for a ten-by-ten series of transformations and the final Metabolist Change assembly.

Precedent reconstruction
Drawings establish the relationship between flights, landings, atrium voids and adjacent floor levels. The study examines the routes and visual connections produced by changes in stair direction and height.
Some dimensions and placements were interpreted from limited reference material, as noted in the source booklet. The model is an analytical reconstruction.
Transformation and repetition
A ten-by-ten matrix tests combinations, rotations and repetitions of stair components. Variations can be compared through changes in flight orientation and landing arrangement.
Selected configurations develop into continuous assemblies. The final study combines curved landings with repeated stairs to investigate circulation as an independent spatial system.
Representation and transformation studies by Siyue You. The initial architectural precedent is Zaha Hadid’s Dominion Office Building; Metabolist Change is the subsequent formal investigation documented in the source booklet.
